Europe is on the brink of a challenging summer as fuel shortages threaten to impact the continent, caused by the ongoing war in Iran and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, according to European Union Energy Commissioner Dan Jorgensen.
Speaking to reporters in Madrid, Jorgensen revealed that the EU is preparing measures to mitigate the war's effects on jet fuel supply. "If needed, we may redistribute and share jet fuel resources we have," he stated.
European airlines have already expressed concerns, warning that jet fuel shortages could manifest in the coming weeks due to the blocked main supply route through the Strait of Hormuz. Notably, about 75% of Europe's jet fuel supply is sourced from the Middle East.
