Dutch Activists Challenge Shell in Landmark Climate Lawsuit

Despite previous rulings urging emission reductions, Shell plans to sustain material oil output beyond 2030, stating the global economy's reliance on fossil fuels poses challenges to a complete withdrawal.

The court case stems from years-long legal efforts to hold energy giants accountable for their climate impact. Previously, Dutch courts have ruled on Shell's responsibility to cut emissions, but the new lawsuit presses further against future oil and gas investments. A hearing date is yet to be announced.
