Larsen & Toubro (L&T) announced on Wednesday that it has secured a long-term agreement with Japan's ITOCHU Corporation for the annual supply of 3 lakh tonnes of green ammonia from L&T's upcoming Kandla, Gujarat facility. The pact, facilitated by L&T Energy GreenTech Ltd (LTEGL), marks a strategic partnership aimed at revolutionizing marine fuel with environmentally friendly alternatives.
ITOCHU, which is involved in various sectors including domestic and international trade of textiles, machinery, and energy, plans to integrate these supplies into its bunkering operations in Singapore and beyond. This initiative will enable Singapore to enhance its role as a vital hub for ammonia bunkering as marine industries gradually shift towards sustainable energy solutions.
The agreement builds upon the previous year's Joint Development Agreement between L&T and ITOCHU, signifying progress in their collaboration to promote low-carbon fuels in shipping. By positioning Kandla as a key export hub, L&T aims to further its goals in scaling green hydrogen and its derivatives, underscoring the importance of this development in advancing the maritime sector's decarbonisation efforts.
