India's Wind Energy Surge: A Decade of Ambitious Growth
India aims to add 10 GW of wind energy annually over the next decade to reach net-zero by 2070. With over 56.1 GW installed, India is ranked 4th globally. The government is committed to removing barriers and advancing policies to support wind energy developers.

India needs to enhance its wind energy capacity by almost 10 gigawatts annually in the upcoming decade to meet its net-zero target, Union New & Renewable Energy Minister Pralhad Joshi announced on Wednesday.
At the Wind Independent Power Producers Association's foundation day in the capital, Joshi highlighted India's ranking as 4th globally in wind energy, with 56.1 GW installed and another 28 GW in progress. In fiscal year 2025-26, India added 6.1 GW of wind power.
Joshi assured governmental support for wind energy developers, noting improved investment conditions and coordination with the Minister of Defence to resolve issues in border areas. He emphasized advancing policies for Green Energy Open Access and prioritization of repowering old turbines.
