Pesticide Concerns Divide Americans, Challenge Trump’s Midterm Strategy
A Reuters/Ipsos poll reveals that most Americans express concern about pesticides and oppose shielding companies from lawsuits over harmful products. President Trump’s support for Bayer in a Supreme Court case regarding its Roundup weedkiller divides voters and raises potential challenges for Republicans in the upcoming midterms.
Most Americans express deep concerns over the use of pesticides in food crops, as revealed by a Reuters/Ipsos poll. The findings come amid U.S. Supreme Court arguments involving Bayer's Roundup weedkiller and highlight the division over shielding companies from lawsuits concerning hazardous products.
The poll, surveying 4,557 U.S. adults, indicated that 78% worry about pesticides, with bipartisan agreement. Additionally, 63% oppose granting companies immunity when their products risk causing cancer, such as Bayer's Roundup, which faces multiple lawsuits over its active ingredient, glyphosate.
The administration of President Donald Trump has publicly backed Bayer's position, aligning with its efforts to limit such lawsuits. This stance could pose electoral challenges, given the bipartisan health concerns that may influence voter sentiment during the upcoming midterm elections.
