Cyberabad Traffic Police Cracks Down on Drunk Driving: 245 Offenders Apprehended
The Telangana Cyberabad Traffic Police launched a weekend enforcement drive targeting drunk driving, resulting in the arrest of 245 offenders. Predominantly targeting two-wheeler riders, the operation highlighted varying levels of intoxication. The Telangana Cyberabad Traffic Police (CTP) initiated a rigorous enforcement drive focusing on drunk driving over the weekend. This operation led to the apprehension of 245 individuals for violating traffic laws within the commissionerate limits, officials reported on Sunday.
According to police data, a significant portion of offenders were two-wheeler riders, totaling 197 cases. This was followed by 36 four-wheeler drivers and 12 three-wheeler operators. Notably, no violations by heavy vehicle operators were recorded during this period.
The offenders were categorized based on their Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) levels. Out of the total, 196 individuals were found with BAC levels ranging between 36 mg/100 ml and 200 mg/100 ml. Another 28 offenders had levels between 201 mg/100 ml and 300 mg/100 ml, while 21 individuals showed dangerously high levels between 301 mg/100 ml and 550 mg/100 ml.
All individuals arrested will face legal proceedings in court, stated Ranjan Ratan Kumar, DCP Traffic of Cyberabad Police. The police reiterated their firm stance on road safety, warning that driving under the influence of alcohol is a grave offense. Cases involving fatality will invoke Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, potentially leading to a maximum sentence of 10 years imprisonment and a fine.
Additionally, the police noted that during the week of April 20-25, 2026, 189 drunk driving cases were resolved by the courts. Two offenders received both a fine and jail time, 187 were fined, and two were ordered to perform social service alongside paying fines.
The enforcement operation was overseen by DCP Traffic Ranjan Ratan Kumar, the Cyberabad Police confirmed.
