Three workers died tragically at a mushroom processing unit in Pune district on Sunday evening, following a mishap in a water drainage tank. The incident unfolded at around 4:30 PM in Belasar village, under the jurisdiction of Jejuri Police Station, according to Pune Rural police.
Authorities reported that one of the workers entered the drainage tank to clean it but failed to return. Concerned for their colleague's safety, two others descended into the tank to rescue him, but none managed to emerge. Local residents, alarmed by the situation, used a JCB machine to break open the concrete slab covering the tank. Sadly, by the time they retrieved the workers, it was too late. They were rushed to Jejuri Rural Hospital, where they were declared dead.
Initial investigations suggest that the workers succumbed to toxic gas accumulation inside the tank, leading to immediate loss of consciousness. The deceased workers have been identified as Pintu Rajesh Prasad, Vyas Soham Kumar, and Gautam Ramsuran Kushwaha, all hailing from Deoria, Uttar Pradesh. A post-mortem examination is ongoing, and an accidental death case has been filed as the investigation continues. (ANI)
