The Communist Party of India's General Secretary, D Raja, has made a fervent appeal to West Bengal's electorate to ensure the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) does not clinch power in the ongoing state assembly elections. According to Raja, such a development could prove catastrophic not just for Bengal, but for India as a whole.
In an interview with ANI, Raja emphasized the critical need for the BJP's defeat in the state as campaigning for the election's final phase came to an end. The first round of voting, held on April 23, registered a notable 92.35% voter participation, a statistic underscoring the engaged political climate amid substantial security measures.
The next phase is scheduled for April 29, with the announcement of election results set for May 4, coinciding with contests in regions like Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry. Meanwhile, Raja chose not to offer comments on remarks made by Maharashtra Congress's Vijay Wadettiwar, opting instead to defer to reactions from senior Congress figures.
