REIT Governance Lapses Lead to Penalties for Axis Trustee Services
Sebi fined Axis Trustee Services Ltd Rs 10 lakh for lapses related to Embassy Office Parks REIT's governance. The REIT faced scrutiny after Aravind Maiya was penalized for misconduct. Delayed disclosures and failure to assess the CEO against criteria were highlighted in SEBI's order.
The Capital markets regulator, Sebi, has imposed a Rs 10 lakh fine on Axis Trustee Services Ltd for multiple disclosure and governance lapses in relation to Embassy Office Parks REIT.
Embassy REIT, India's inaugural publicly listed Real Estate Investment Trust, came under the scanner after the National Financial Reporting Authority (NFRA) on August 19, 2024, penalized then-CEO Aravind Maiya for misconduct.
Sebi criticized the delayed disclosure of this critical information to unitholders and emphasized the trustee's duty to ensure compliant practices while addressing nonconformities efficiently.
