Government Boosts Farmers with MSP Procurement Tweaks

The Centre has authorized the procurement of 9,023 tonnes of sunflower seeds cultivated in Karnataka's 2026 rabi season, offering them a minimum support price (MSP). This measure seeks to safeguard farmers' interests by providing a remunerative pricing alternative when market rates fall below the MSP.

In addition, Maharashtra farmers received relief with an extension of the maximum procurement limit for gram to 8,19,882 tonnes, and a 30-day extension on the purchase window. These adjustments are crucial for farmers who missed the initial selling period and are now able to benefit from the MSP guarantee.

Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan emphasized that these changes under the Price Support Scheme will benefit both Karnataka sunflower growers and Maharashtra's gram producers by preventing them from selling their produce at lower prices due to market pressures.
