Slovakia Lifts Diesel Restrictions: A Boon for Foreign Drivers
Slovakia will lift restrictions on diesel sales and remove higher prices for foreign vehicles starting Friday. Imposed in March after a Druzhba pipeline outage attributed to a Russian attack, these measures were criticized as illegal by the European Commission. The pipeline resumed operations last month.
Slovakia is set to lift volume restrictions on diesel fuel sales and eliminate higher charges for foreign-registered vehicles this Friday, said Economy Minister Denisa Sakova on Facebook.
The restrictions, deemed illegal by the European Commission, were initially enforced in March. This came in response to an outage of the Druzhba pipeline, which was blamed by Ukraine on a Russian attack.
With the pipeline back in operation since last month, Slovakia aims to ease these controversial measures. Foreign drivers could particularly benefit from the lifting of higher fuel prices.
