The National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken suo motu cognizance of a reported case of sexual abuse involving a minor girl in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh. The girl's father and uncle are accused of ongoing abuse.
NCW Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar has called on the Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police to take immediate action. She insists that the matter be handled promptly within the guidelines of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the POCSO Act.
The Commission, while denouncing the incident, highlights the severe impact on the victim and the broader issue of child safety in supposedly secure environments. The police have arrested the accused and are expected to report back within a week.
