In a substantial breakthrough, the Mumbai airport officials have confiscated gold worth Rs 3.15 crore from two passengers on separate smuggling attempts. One of the passengers is a finance professional who converted his assets to gold amid security concerns in Dubai linked to the US-Iran conflict, intending to evade duties.

The operations, conducted over the weekend by the Mumbai Customs' Airport Commissionerate, resulted in the arrest of both individuals. With the assistance of the Advance Passenger Information System (APIS), officers effectively intercepted the finance professional who held gold valued at Rs 1.74 crore.

In a parallel case, customs officials apprehended another passenger carrying gold dust concealed in wax inside a cigarette packet. This packet contained four pouches totaling 1,020 grams of gold, valued at Rs 1.41 crore. Both busts highlight an ongoing trend of sophisticated smuggling tactics being employed at the international gateway.
