Empowering India's Women Farmers: A Call to Action
An appeal was made to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging the creation of a national organization for women's empowerment in agriculture. The initiative seeks to support women farmers, laborers, and vendors through dedicated schemes, training, and market access, aiming for economic self-reliance and national prosperity.
On World Mother's Day, a significant appeal was made to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the establishment of a national organization dedicated to the empowerment of women in agriculture. This initiative, proposed by Raghunath Yemul and supported by organizations like ''Bharat Krishi Nari Samridhi Sangh,'' calls for creating nationwide schemes to support women farmers.
The appeal highlights the struggles of women in agriculture, addressing issues like market access, fair pricing, training, and financial support. Leaders such as Vidyabhushan Dr. Prashant Pagare have stressed the importance of recognizing women's contributions, given that they form a large part of agricultural labor yet own only 13.9% of land.
The memorandum suggests measures including organizing women farmers, establishing women-led enterprises, and using digital platforms for market access. With a focus on skill development and financial support, the proposal aims to enhance rural women's incomes, create jobs, and advance the ''Atmanirbhar Bharat'' and ''Viksit Bharat 2047'' visions.
