Expressing serious concern over the rising instances of gang rape in Bihar, DGP Vinay Kumar has highlighted a disturbing societal tolerance toward these heinous crimes. Speaking at a gender-based violence workshop in Patna, Kumar noted a declining public outcry compared to two decades ago.
According to Kumar, only around 2% of sexual harassment cases are reported due to police inaction and victim suppression. He stressed the urgent need for strict enforcement of laws against gender-based crimes, urging police and judiciary to ensure swift justice. Insensitive policing practices must end, with Kumar issuing warnings against such behavior.
Kumar condemned dowry-related practices, suggesting penalties including suspension for personnel involved. Despite reaching over 30% female representation in the force and implementing various schemes, Kumar stated that changing social attitudes remain crucial for addressing gender-based crimes effectively.
