The Islamic State has taken responsibility for a deadly attack in eastern Syria, resulting in the deaths of two Syrian soldiers. This marks the first time since February that the jihadist group has targeted the Syrian government.
According to the Syrian state news agency SANA, the ambush took place on a bus in Hasakah, with Islamic State claiming to have killed and wounded six Syrian army members. This incident highlights the persisting threat from the group.
At its height during the Syrian civil war, the Islamic State controlled significant territories in Syria. Although it was driven out by a U.S.-led coalition, the group declared a new phase of operations against President Ahmed al-Sharaa's government in February.
