In a bold diplomatic agenda for May 2026, India's Ministry of External Affairs unveiled plans to host the BRICS Foreign Ministers' Meeting in New Delhi. This initiative positions India as a significant player within the expanded BRICS alliance, emphasizing the nation's dual-track strategy of leadership and securing national interests.

New Delhi is set to become a nucleus for BRICS dialogue, marking the first significant ministerial meeting since the 2025 UNGA gathering. While delegation lists are at the discretion of member countries, it is confirmed that all attending dignitaries will meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Ministry stressed BRICS's commitment to consensus-driven decisions, insisting that any further expansion must meet unanimous approval, a stance India upholds as the 2026 chair.

Further enriching India's diplomatic tapestry, Prime Minister Modi's five-nation tour from May 15-20 will traverse the UAE, Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, and Italy. The Middle Eastern leg prioritizes energy security and strengthening ties with the Indian diaspora. In Europe, the focus shifts to the green economy, technology, and landmark agreements, underscoring India's dynamic international strategy.
