The Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission (IPC), an autonomous body under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, has taken a significant step towards enhancing medicine safety and rational drug use by signing three key Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs). These agreements, executed at IPC's Ghaziabad office, involve collaboration with the Bihar, Maharashtra, and Mizoram State Pharmacy Councils.
The collaborative efforts outlined in the MoUs aim to bolster pharmacovigilance, advance patient safety, and promote the National Formulary of India among pharmacists. The initiative focuses on ensuring evidence-based medicine use and establishing the formulary as a reference in hospital pharmacies, thus strengthening healthcare practices statewide.
This partnership also seeks to enhance the Pharmacovigilance Programme of India through improved adverse drug reaction reporting, establishment of monitoring centers, and comprehensive training for pharmacists. Public awareness and professional workshops will further the understanding of medicine safety, setting a robust foundation for safer medical practices across India.
