Import Tariff Refunds Begin Trickle for Heavy Truck and Toy Makers

Both Oshkosh Corp, a heavy-truck manufacturer, and Basic Fun, a toy maker, have confirmed receipt of partial refunds from tariffs that were recently invalidated by the U.S. Supreme Court. The payments are part of a broader $166 billion refund ordered by the U.S. government for importers affected by the tariffs.

The refunds, which have been anxiously anticipated, are yet to be fully distributed, as the process remains sluggish. 'The issue is will the funds flow like a river or fire hose or like a stream or garden hose,' remarked Jay Foreman, CEO of Basic Fun, underscoring the slow disbursement. His company has received $400,000, a fraction of their $7.4 million claim.

As of early April, U.S. Customs and Border Protection reported that about 56,497 importers have aligned themselves to receive $127 billion in electronic refunds, accounting for more than three-quarters of what's available. Over 330,000 importers were affected, having paid tariffs on 53 million shipments under the invalidated policy.
