Mizoram Ginger Mission: Revolutionizing India's Ginger Industry

The Government has initiated the Mizoram Ginger Mission, a Rs 189.79 crore project aimed at boosting ginger cultivation and its value chain in the northeastern state. Launched virtually by Union DoNER Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia and Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma, the project aims to transform ginger production and market presence.

Minister Scindia highlighted the mission's goal to make farmers key players in the agricultural value chain beyond just cultivation. This includes processing, branding, packaging, and export, aiming to increase the current farmer income from Rs 8-15 per kilogram to its international potential of over Rs 500 per kilogram through strategic interventions and market integration.

The mission will establish a processing hub, three spoke centers, and integrate 20,000 farming households into a comprehensive value-chain ecosystem. With targeted market entries in South-East Asia, the Middle East, and Europe, the initiative seeks to sustainably boost rural livelihoods and significantly enhance the global standing of Mizo Ginger.
