Ladakh Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena inaugurated a high-altitude irrigation canal in Changthang on Thursday, a project hailed as a significant advancement in water security for the region.

During his inaugural visit to Changthang, the LG also initiated a plantation drive of 15,000 trees in collaboration with local villagers. This initiative aims to promote soil conservation, slope stabilization, and ecological sustainability. Saxena emphasized that the Mahey irrigation canal and the extensive plantation would enhance Changthang's irrigation infrastructure, bolster agricultural productivity, and support the livelihoods of farmers and pastoral communities.

The Mahey Tokpo-Raldho canal, a vital infrastructure project, began in 2022-23 and faced delays due to administrative issues. Upon assuming office on March 13, Saxena expedited the project's completion, which now successfully provides reliable irrigation for nearly 100 acres, drawing from Yaya Lake. The project exemplifies dedication amid challenging terrain, praised by Saxena for its execution under extreme conditions.
