In a statement on Friday, Union Minister G Kishan Reddy discussed the recent fuel price hike, attributing the increase to an unavoidable global energy crisis. Addressing the media, he called for public understanding of the complex international factors leading to this situation.
Reddy criticized opposition parties for allegedly attempting to provoke the public over the issue, stressing that no domestic causes were to blame for the hike. He pointed to the ongoing conflicts in West Asia as a significant barrier to smooth crude oil transportation, which has disrupted supply chains worldwide.
The minister highlighted that fuel prices have surged globally, including a 40 percent rise in countries like the US. He warned that reduced government revenue could jeopardize welfare programs, drawing parallels to PM Narendra Modi's leadership during the Covid-19 crisis's fiscal challenges.
