Supreme Court Adopts Virtual Hearings Amid Fuel Crisis
In response to the ongoing global energy crisis, the Supreme Court has mandated video conferencing for hearings on certain days and encouraged car-pooling among judges. This move aligns with government advisories on fuel conservation against the backdrop of rising petrol and diesel prices linked to the West Asia conflict.

In light of the Central Government's advisory on fuel conservation due to a global energy crisis stemming from the West Asia conflict, the Supreme Court has mandated video conferencing for hearings on Mondays, Fridays, and partial working days until further notice.
The court is also promoting car-pooling among judges to maximize fuel efficiency. Concurrently, the Court has permitted up to 50% of Registry staff across various branches to work from home for up to two days per week on a rotational basis, ensuring that court operations remain uninterrupted.
This decision follows Prime Minister Narendra Modi's call to citizens to curtail fuel use, embrace sustainable practices, and bolster economic resilience amidst geopolitical uncertainties. Today, fuel prices were hiked by Rs 3 per litre amid concerns over energy supplies, as Brent crude prices exceeded USD 100 per barrel due to tensions in West Asia.
