Justice Manoj Jain of the Delhi High Court has been assigned to hear the Central Bureau of Investigation's (CBI) challenge against the discharge of former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and other accused in the Delhi excise policy case. The hearing is slated for tomorrow, Tuesday.
This development follows a decision by a previous bench to request the Chief Justice's intervention for reassignment after certain developments emerged during court proceedings. The CBI is contesting the trial court's decision to discharge Kejriwal and others due to alleged irregularities in how the Delhi excise policy was drafted and executed.
Parallel criminal contempt proceedings connected to this case have been allocated to a Division Bench, which includes Justice Navin Chawla and Justice Ravinder Dudeja. The High Court had previously addressed concerns over public statements and the distribution of edited video clips related to the judicial process, emphasizing the importance of confining criticism within constitutional limits. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta and Additional Solicitor General SV Raju have been actively involved, advocating for the continuation of proceedings on the CBI's behalf.
