President Droupadi Murmu will posthumously confer the Padma Shri to Dr. Gopal Ji Trivedi, a renowned agriculture scientist, on May 25. Dr. Trivedi, former vice-chancellor of the Rajendra Agriculture University, is recognized for his groundbreaking work in agricultural extension education and rural development.
Dr. Trivedi, who passed away on May 12 at the age of 96, made substantial impacts with his socio-economic status scale, known as the 'Trivedi Scale'. Born in 1930, he attained his education in agriculture from institutions in Bihar and Delhi, eventually leading universities and working extensively with farmers in his native village.
Dr. Trivedi's innovative approaches, including the Bihar Aquaculture Based Agriculture (BABA) model, transformed waterlogged lands into productive fish farming systems. Honored with multiple awards, his legacy continues to inspire agricultural advancements in the eastern states.
