In a crackdown against substandard milk, Rajasthan's food safety department has destroyed around 1,450 litres of adulterated and spoiled milk during two separate inspection drives here, officials said on Saturday.
According to the department, special joint teams are conducting continuous inspections to curb milk adulteration. During surprise checks at multiple locations, samples were collected and substandard supplies were seized and destroyed.
Food Safety Commissioner Dr T Shubhamangala said a team collected milk samples from Krishna Milk Dairy located in Sahib Rampura Anopura in Jaipur district and also gathered information about the sources of milk procurement to trace the adulteration network.
During inspection, around 700 litres of milk stored at the dairy was found to be sour and foul-smelling, following which it was destroyed on the spot.
A notice was issued to the operator under the Food Safety and Standards Act based on observed violations.
In a separate action, officials inspected three milk tankers supplying to units producing 'mawa' in Jaipur's Chithwari area. Around 750 litres of milk in one tanker was found to be substandard in preliminary examination and was also destroyed.
Additional Commissioner Bhagwat Singh said four special food safety teams have been constituted to intensify action against adulterated milk. These teams will monitor producers, collectors and vendors, and gather intelligence to track suspicious activities and dismantle the adulteration network.
