Former Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot on Monday targeted the Centre over the rise in petrol and diesel prices and said the government should clarify the situation to the public.
Gehlot said that fuel prices have been increased repeatedly after the conclusion of assembly elections in five states.
''Sometimes the increase is 90 paise and sometimes nearly Rs 3. It is beyond understanding why the Centre is not informing the country about the real situation,'' he said.
The Congress leader referred to remarks by Rahul Gandhi and said warnings were being issued about a possible rise in inflationary pressure in the country.
He said the Centre must take steps before the situation goes out of control.
