Rajasthan minister Madan Dilawar travelled 475 km in a state roadways bus over a 24-hour period to encourage the use of public transport and conserve fuel. The state Congress, however, dismissed it as a photo-op.
Dilawar began his bus journey from Pali to Kota on Sunday night, went to Baran the next day in scorching noon hours and returned home to Kota the same evening.
It took his bus 6.5 hours for the Pali-Kota journey, and after reaching he used a government assigned district pool vehicle to go to his home. The journey to Baran and back took around 3 hours.
Enroute, the minister received a warm welcome from party workers and supporters.
Addressing media in Kota on Monday, Dilawar said the prime minister has urged all countrymen to consume less fuel as the supply of diesel and petrol from aboard has gone down and ''we have to pay more money for it''.
''I spent a whole life in buses. I am a village man and it is nothing new for us to travel by bus,'' the minister said on awareness campaign.
Dilawar said he would also use no petrol-diesel vehicle during his five-day padyatra in Ramganjmandi area commencing from May 28 to June 1.
Reacting to the minister's nearly 10-hour bus travel, Leader of Opposition in Rajasthan Tika Ram Jully posted on X: ''Camera, action, photoshoot''.
''This is the same charade going on in the government; they couldn't care less about the people's pain and suffering. The minister felt hot in the bus, so he bailed before the photoshoot… Anyway, the public has now made up its mind to soon give the BJP the boot,'' he said.
