Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced a substantial reduction in Assam's Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR), which fell to 125 during 2020-22 from 490 in 2001-03.
Over the past two decades, strategic government efforts, particularly in the last ten years, have led to significant improvements in maternal and infant health indicators in the state.
Sarma credited the progress to enhanced medical infrastructure, motivated healthcare workers, and effective social programs, positioning Assam ahead of states like Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh in reducing MMR.
