A Bangladesh Air Force training jet tragically crashed into a school campus in Dhaka, resulting in the deaths of at least 27 individuals, officials reported Tuesday. Among the deceased was the pilot, confirming the gravity of the mishap that left many grieving in its aftermath.
The F-7 BGI aircraft suffered a mechanical failure shortly after taking off on a routine training mission from the Kurmitola airbase at 1:06 p.m. on Monday, according to military sources. This incident also led to 88 people, including children, being hospitalized with burn injuries.
The tragedy prompted the government to declare a national day of mourning, with flags at half-mast and special prayers held nationwide. An investigative committee has been established to determine the cause of the crash, which follows an Air India disaster weeks earlier in Ahmedabad.
