In response to a severe rabies threat, particularly impacting children, the Supreme Court has ordered the relocation of stray dogs in the Delhi-NCR region to shelters.
Authorities in areas including Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, and Ghaziabad must promptly initiate the removal of strays and establish dog shelters with necessary personnel and CCTV monitoring. The Supreme Court mandated that no strays should be released back onto the streets and underscored the gravity by warning of contempt actions against any interference.
Additionally, a helpline is to be set up for dog bite incidents, and comprehensive information on rabies vaccination facilities is to be made accessible. This decisive action aims to prevent further incidents of rabies, classified by the court as an 'extremely grim' situation requiring immediate intervention.
