Tragedy struck the Dinjoy tea estate in Assam's Dibrugarh as five individuals lost their lives in the past week. These victims initially raised suspicions of being casualties of diarrhoea, according to local officials. However, the causes of death varied.
Among the deceased were Kartik Mirdha, just 12 years old, who fell to acute gastroenteritis, and 70-year-old Rita Moore, who succumbed to the same condition. Rajiv Nayak, 17, succumbed after a heatstroke following a football game, Ayesha Mirdha, 30, died due to continuous vomiting, while Jaymati Rajput, 60, had been battling cancer.
In response to these incidents and a surge in diarrhoea cases across the district, the Health Department has launched various interventions. These include awareness programs, the distribution of Oral Rehydration Salts (ORS), and house-to-house health surveys. Authorities have urged residents to immediately seek medical attention or contact local health workers if they experience any symptoms related to diarrhoea.
