U.S. Halts Visas for Gaza Amid Security Concerns
The U.S. State Department pauses visitor visas for Gaza residents, citing security concerns. This follows far-right activist Laura Loomer's claims about Palestinian entry into the U.S. The move has sparked political debate amid ongoing conflicts between Israel and Hamas, leading to significant casualties and potential resettlement plans.

The United States State Department has announced an immediate suspension of visitor visas for individuals from Gaza as it undertakes a comprehensive review. This decision comes in the wake of social media claims by far-right activist Laura Loomer that Palestinians had entered the U.S. under questionable circumstances, sparking political debate.
In the past months, over 3,800 B1/B2 visitor visas were issued to holders of the Palestinian Authority travel document, allowing for medical treatment in the U.S. However, political tension has heightened after Loomer's statements caught the attention of Republican lawmakers, who have raised national security concerns.
The pause on visas coincides with a backdrop of violent conflict between Israel and Hamas, which has resulted in heavy casualties on both sides. While there's no indication from the U.S. of taking in Palestinian refugees, discussions about resettlement are reportedly underway between South Sudan and Israel.
