On Monday, Abbott, a global healthcare company, made waves by unveiling a dual-chamber leadless pacemaker system. This revolutionary device allows the heart to maintain a healthy rhythm without the need for wires or surgical pockets typical of traditional pacemakers.
Specifically designed to combat the challenges of bradycardia, where the heart tends to beat too slowly, this new system includes two leadless pacemakers capable of wireless communication and real-time synchronization. Previously, leadless versions could only handle one heart chamber due to synchronization issues.
Abbott's General Manager, Ajay Singh Chauhan, noted that the company's innovative AVEIR VR and AVEIR AR devices, each significantly smaller than a conventional pacemaker, represent a major leap forward in leadless pacing technology. These devices are designed for implantation in the heart's atrium and ventricle, enabling synchronized operation on a beat-by-beat basis.
