Hantavirus Outbreak on Cruise Ship Triggers Health Alert

South African health officials have confirmed an outbreak of the Andes strain of hantavirus in two passengers from a cruise ship, sparking concerns over the infection's contagious nature.

One of the affected individuals, a British national, is receiving intensive care, whereas the other passenger succumbed to the virus. Health authorities are conducting tests to ensure containment.

The cruise ship, currently docked off Cape Verde, has seen three fatalities due to the outbreak. Efforts are being made to evacuate at least four other infected passengers still on board.
