In a significant political shift, Cape Verde's PAICV party has emerged victorious in the recent parliamentary elections, unseating the ruling Movement for Democracy (MpD) after a decade out of power.

With nearly all votes counted, the PAICV secured 46.7% of the ballots compared to MpD's 43.6%, claiming 37 out of 72 parliamentary seats. This development positions Francisco Carvalho to potentially assume the role of prime minister.

Cape Verde's political structure is a hybrid presidential-parliamentary system where strong collaboration will be needed between Carvalho and President Jose Maria Neves to govern effectively.
