A somber incident has struck Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Ranchi, Jharkhand, as a young medical student was discovered dead in his hostel room. Identified as Akshit Kumar, the 21-year-old hailed from Simdega district and was pursuing a bachelor's degree in medicine.

Police arrived promptly at the scene upon receiving information and found the door locked from the inside. After breaking in, they discovered Kumar's body hanging from the ceiling fan. Manoj Kumar, Officer-in-Charge at Bariyatu Police Station, indicated that it appears to be a suicide; however, a post-mortem is needed to confirm the exact cause of death.

Despite extensive checks, no suicide note was recovered from the room, prompting the police to launch a full-scale investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. Kumar was enrolled as a second-year MBBS student, having joined the institution in 2024.
