In a bid to mitigate the impact of the ongoing heatwave, the Delhi government has been distributing around 25,000 Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS) packets daily at Atal canteens and night shelters across the city.
The initiative, which started on May 1, primarily targets the city's vulnerable populations, such as daily wage workers and the homeless, who frequent these places for subsidised meals. The drive, scheduled to continue until July 15, aims to help people combat dehydration and potential heatstroke as temperatures continue to soar.
Government officials have coordinated with the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board and local health departments to ensure adequate supply and distribution of ORS packets. Additionally, emergency preparedness measures, including collaborations with nearby hospitals and installation of informational posters, have been enhanced to respond effectively to heat-related emergencies.
