Two people were injured and fell unconscious after a bottle containing acid burst inside a car near the Jasola Metro station in Shaheen Bagh on Friday evening, a Delhi Fire Services official said.
The incident was initially reported to the Delhi Fire Service (DFS) as a car fire with two persons trapped inside near Kalindi Kunj Road in southeast Delhi around 5:04 pm.
Following the alert, two fire tenders were rushed to the spot. However, after reaching the location and inspecting, fire officials found that no fire had broken out inside the vehicle.
According to DFS officials, the occupants of the car, Anil (42) and Jyotsana (42), reportedly inhaled the fumes and fell unconscious.
Both injured persons were rushed to the AIIMS Trauma Centre by PCR personnel for treatment, they said.
DFS officials said the acid bottle's bursting caused a loud explosion-like sound, which initially led to reports of a vehicle fire.
The exact cause behind the incident and the circumstances under which the acid bottle was being transported are being investigated, officials said.
