Rajasthan Bans Faulty Oxytocin: Tragic Outcomes at Hospitals
Rajasthan drug control department banned TOCIN oxytocin injections after quality tests failed, following deaths and infections at local hospitals. The drug lacked the active ingredient, raising serious concerns. Although linked to post-cesarean infections, experts claim the absence of API doesn't typically cause kidney failure or death.

The Rajasthan drug control department has prohibited the sale and use of TOCIN oxytocin injection following its failure in quality tests. The drug, manufactured by Jackson Laboratories Pvt Ltd, was implicated in infections and deaths in local hospitals.
Authorities reported that the failed tests showed 'zero content' of the active pharmaceutical ingredient (API). Despite its absence, experts noted that such omissions generally do not lead to severe side effects like kidney failure or death. Approximately 3,500 vials were seized.
Infections and renal complications were noted post-cesarean at NMCH and JK Lone Hospital, where several women suffered severe symptoms, resulting in four fatalities. A pregnant woman also succumbed to similar complications after uterine surgery.
