Vaping devices continue to be widely accessible despite a nationwide prohibition in India, sparking concern among lawmakers and health professionals. Swati Maliwal, a Rajya Sabha member, expressed her intent to bring this issue to the Parliamentary floor, noting the risk posed by these devices, especially for minors.
During a seminar by Mothers Against Vaping, Maliwal described vaping as a dangerous trend leading to addiction among children. Experts pointed out that sleek packaging and child-friendly flavours are major factors drawing young users. The event underscored a need for improved enforcement against the grey market and more robust public awareness initiatives.
Participants debated the misconception that vaping is a safer alternative to smoking, challenging claims resulting from industry-sponsored studies. Calls for adding vaping dangers to school curricula were made to educate children early and counter misinformation spread through social media and influencers.
