Crisis in Pakistan as Congo Virus Claims Three Lives
Three fatalities linked to the Congo virus have been reported in Pakistan, involving victims from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Karachi. In a concerning health development, Pakistan has reported three fatalities attributed to the Congo virus, two from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and one from Karachi, as revealed by The Express Tribune. The Karachi victim was identified as a 25-year-old fisherman from Ibrahim Hyderi.
Muhammad Zubair from Malir district, who initially displayed symptoms on June 16, succumbed to the virus after being admitted to Sindh Infectious Diseases Hospital due to lack of specialized treatment facilities. Health authorities have deployed active search and response measures while closely monitoring contacts of the deceased to prevent further spread.
Earlier, a 42-year-old man from Malir also died from the virus. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, two patients from Karak and North Waziristan perished at Hayatabad Medical Complex, raising the area's death toll to three. Officials have commenced sanitization and contact tracing efforts, emphasizing that the risk escalates during the Eid celebrations due to increased animal slaughter.
