In a vibrant display of enthusiasm, yoga practitioners from Nepal assembled at Narayanchaur to mark the 11th International Yoga Day. Participants, guided by their instructors, performed various asanas to the accompaniment of music, underscoring the day's global significance as it is celebrated on June 21 every year.
This year's theme, 'Yoga for One Earth, One Health,' accentuates yoga's essential role in promoting physical, mental, and spiritual wellness. Bikram Shakya, a yoga instructor from Lalitpur, highlighted the practice's capacity to foster peace of mind and prosperity when performed as a morning ritual. The day was first officially recognized by the United Nations in 2014 after Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's proposal.
Nepal was a forerunner in supporting the initiative, with backing from then-Prime Minister Sushil Koirala. Since its global inception on June 21, 2015, the day has been widely celebrated. The theme ties into India's broader vision of 'One Earth, One Family, One Future,' as emphasized during its G20 presidency, strengthening the interconnection of health, sustainability, and environment.
