In a compelling address to the Hakka Youth Association in Taoyuan, President William Lai called for solidarity between pro-Taiwan and pro-China groups to counter the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). The speech, the second in a planned series of ten, emphasized unity as a crucial component in protecting Taiwan's sovereignty and democratic values.

Lai invoked the spirit of Chiang Wei-shui, a pioneer in Taiwanese democracy, asserting the importance of political consensus for national advancement. Highlighting significant historical events such as the 1949 Battle of Guningtou and the 1958 823 Artillery Battle, Lai argued that national threats transcend ethnic or political identities, urging all parties to collaborate against Chinese expansionism.

Reiterating the Democratic Progressive Party's principles, Lai affirmed the recognition of Taiwan and the Republic of China as mutually acceptable. He stressed the importance of individual choice in national identity while opposing authoritarianism. Lai reiterated former president Tsai Ing-wen's 'four commitments,' underscoring Taiwan's dedication to democracy and independence, and inviting opposition leaders to partner with the government in the face of external threats.
