BYC Exposes Unlawful Detention of Baloch Leaders
The Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) criticized the extended detention of its leaders under Pakistan's 3MPO law. Despite legal timelines, their leaders are still imprisoned without justification. The Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) has publicly criticized the prolonged detention of its central leaders under the Maintenance of Public Order (3MPO) law, labeling it a stark infringement of Pakistan's constitution. Sabiha Baloch, a central figure in the BYC, highlighted the issue in a video message on 'X' released Wednesday.
The detention, which was meant to end on June 22, continues without the mandated legal review, as per Pakistan's Constitution. "There's no bench, no justification, no legal process, just silence," Sabiha pointed out, referring to the absence of a Review Board appearance for the detained leaders, a process required every 90 days.
The arrests of BYC leaders, including Maharaj Baloch and others, came in March due to what the group claims are politically motivated charges. BYC argues their initial arrest lacked legality and has taken the issue to the High Court and Supreme Court, but their leaders remain imprisoned.
Appealing to journalists, lawyers, and human rights advocates, Sabiha Baloch urged opposition against the misuse of 3MPO, employed allegedly to stifle peaceful political dissent in Baloch regions. She framed the detentions as part of a wider effort to curb Baloch political activity and demands for constitutional rights.
"We demand the immediate release of our comrades. This silence is not law; it is repression," she concluded emphatically.
