Recent heavy rainfall has led to devastating floods in Afghanistan's Maidan Wardak and Logar provinces, claiming the lives of four people, including three children, and leaving four others injured, reports TOLO News. Authorities are now contending with the aftermath that has left several families displaced and in need of urgent aid.
Faizullah Jalali, head of Maidan Wardak's Natural Disaster Management Authority, confirmed that the floods in Nirkh district resulted in one death and injuries to four individuals, who are receiving medical care. Significant infrastructure damage has been reported, with roads in Chak, Daimirdad, and Nirkh initially blocked but now largely reopened. In addition to infrastructural impact, the floods have also resulted in the loss of around 100 livestock.
Local authorities have initiated relief efforts, distributing food and tents to affected families. Noorullah Mahmood of Logar's Disaster Management Authority reported food distribution to 2,000 families, with an additional 126 families scheduled to receive aid. Victims have made urgent pleas for continued assistance as Amanullah, a resident, shares the floods destroyed crops ready for harvest, while Amanuddin highlights the dire need for shelter and essential supplies.
According to reports, more than 16,000 jeribs of agricultural land and about 270 houses have been destroyed as a result of the floods in the two provinces.
