In a significant diplomatic engagement during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to the United Kingdom, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri announced enhanced cooperation with the UK in addressing extremist activities targeting Indian missions. This collaboration, noted Misri, has been crucial in mitigating potential threats to diplomatic personnel and assets.
Moreover, Misri emphasized India's ongoing efforts to bring back economic offenders who have taken refuge in the UK. Legal processes are being pursued for the extradition of high-profile fugitives like Lalit Modi, Nirav Modi, and Vijay Mallya. A memorandum of understanding between the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the UK National Crime Agency aims to combat corruption and organized crime.
With a landmark Free Trade Agreement now in place, witnessed by Modi and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, the two nations are poised to boost trade, particularly benefiting sectors such as textiles, leather, and marine products. The deal offers almost total tariff-free access, fostering economic growth and employment opportunities.
