In a significant meeting at Chequers, the countryside residence of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized a robust approach to tackling extremism. With rising concerns about pro-Khalistani activities in the UK, Modi asserted that democratic freedoms should not be exploited to undermine democracy.
Amid discussions, gratitude was expressed towards the UK for its denunciation of the Pahalgam terror attack. Modi highlighted the nations' shared stance against terrorism, stating there should be no double standards in combating this global menace. The dialogue included bilateral talks with a focus on collaboration to address extremism and radicalization.
Beyond strengthening security ties, Modi and Starmer celebrated the signing of the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), aimed at enhancing trade between both countries. Signed by Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal and British Trade Secretary Jonathan Reynolds, the deal promises significant economic benefits, including reduced tariffs and job creation.
