In a significant diplomatic move, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian embarked on a pivotal two-day visit to Pakistan, aimed at strengthening bilateral trade ties amidst ongoing regional tensions. Upon his arrival in Lahore, he received a cordial welcome from former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.

During his stay, President Pezeshkian plans to hold key meetings with Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. A visit to the historical Mazar-i-Iqbal in Lahore is also on the agenda. This diplomatic mission comes as Pakistan commits to mediating between Iran and the United States to ease tensions.

Pezeshkian's visit marks the second by an Iranian president to Pakistan within two years, highlighting the countries' desire to enhance their economic partnership—a goal underscored by plans to increase annual trade exchanges to USD 10 billion. Despite the focus on economic cooperation, security challenges persist due to border conflicts involving ethnic Baloch separatists, which threaten trade initiatives like the Chabahar port project.
