In a landmark verdict, suspended JD(S) leader and former Member of Parliament, Prajwal Revanna, was sentenced to life imprisonment for heinous crimes, including rape. The special court imposed a hefty fine of Rs 11.50 lakh, with Rs 11.25 lakh directed to the victim — a domestic worker in Revanna's household.
The 34-year-old politician, also the grandson of H D Deve Gowda, faced conviction in one of the four registered cases of sexual abuse against him. The judgment was pronounced by Special Court for MPs/MLAs Judge Santosh Gajanan Bhat. Revanna was found guilty under various IPC sections, including rape and harassment.
The crimes came to public attention after explicit videos were circulated during the Lok Sabha polls campaign, tarnishing his re-election effort. Special public prosecutor Ashok Nayak highlighted the maximum punishment granted, emphasizing his offenses occurred during his term as an MP, showcasing the judicial system's commitment to ensuring justice for victims.
